CHELTENHAM WELCOMES AN EXCITING NEW FESTIVAL

The Cheltenham International Film Festival is the biggest new event to hit Cheltenham for many a year; and we are delighted to have Simon Pegg as Festival Patron.

One of Britain’s most celebrated directors, Mike Leigh, leads a parade of film industry figures coming to the Festival this year which launches on 27th May with the premier of a new motion picture (TBC). Other directors include Josie Rourke, director of Mary Queen of Scots, legendary enfant terrible, Steven Berkoff and one of Poland’s most highly-regarded directors, Jan Komasa, are among a growing list of film industry figures coming to Cheltenham.

JOIN US ON OUR JOURNEY; BECOME A SPONSOR

We invite you to join us on a journey, to turn the spotlight on Cheltenham as a centre for independent film and cinema recognised in and around town, across the county, throughout the country and further afield. The Festival is our flagship but we plan screenings and film-related events throughout the year for our sponsors and supporters to engage in.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

We have many opportunities for sponsors to become engaged with the Festival – at different levels of sponsorship across different events.

EMERGING FILMMAKERS IN COMPETITION

We will screen emerging film directors who have already achieved critical acclaim around the world with their first, second or third film; films like the Icelandic film Woman At War, directed by Benedikt Erlingsson.

FAMOUS NEW DIRECTORS

The respected actor, Ralph Fiennes, has directed his third film, The White Crow, the true story of Rudolph Nureyev, which will be screened at the Festival.

CELEBRATED DIRECTORS

The Festival will pay tribute to one of Britain’s greatest directors, Mike Leigh, who will be attending the festival at screenings of two of his early films; Bleak Moments and Nuts in May.

POLISH FILM SEASON

Poland has a great tradition of cinema.  We will screen new and old films from some of Poland’s best directors, including Suicide Room by the highly-regarded Jan Komasa and Coach’s Daughter from Lukasz Grzegorzek.  Both will be in attendance.
FILM SHORTS

Emerging filmmakers usually start by directing film shorts and we have a brief programme to screen some of the best shorts submitted to us including Held For A Moment, a touching film about miscarriage. Filmmakers will be coming to the Festival.

WOMEN IN FILM

We shall focus on women filmmakers, who are making a mark by screening critically-acclaimed films like Animals, Capernaum and Mary Queen of Scots by celebrated stage director, Josie Rourke, who will be in attendance.

DOCUMENTARIES

We will screen the wonderful documentary Maiden, the story of Tracy Edwards and the first all-female crew to participate in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989.   And,  a new documentary about and with Maria Callas - Maria By Callas.

EDUCATION

Cheltenham International Film Festival joins forces with Into Education to put film at the heart of children’s education.  During the Festival and throughout the year, the organisers of the Festival will work with Into Film to support teachers and educators to bring the film experience to young people aged 5 – 19.

We also have planned a series of master classes, panels and talks by leading film industry professionals in the craft and business of filmmaking.
