Scorched Earth

A taciturn contemporary noir in the mould of Michael Mann and Jean Pierre Melville, which finds seasoned criminals fighting over the spoils of an art heist

A professional thief agrees to join up with some old colleagues and steal a valuable painting from the restoration workshop of a museum. Surprisingly, for crime drama, the heist goes to plan, but things start to go wrong when the back-stabbing rival criminals attempt to outsmart each other and keep the money for themselves.

Reminiscent of Michael Mann and Jean Pierre Melville, this brooding contemporary noir is shot mostly at night, with many scenes unfolding without dialogue. It’s fascinating to watch these seasoned criminals methodically go about their business in a taut, smolderingly intense thriller.
