Timestalker

Opening Night Film

Preview (English Premiere) + Special Guest

Groundhog Day meets Monty Python in Alice Lowe’s long awaited follow up to Prevenge

As well as writing and directing this entertaining anti-romcom, Lowe takes the lead role as the hopelessly lovesick Agness, who is continuously reincarnated to relive the same doomed romance. Beginning in 1688, she finds herself overcome with love for a handsome heretic preacher – just as he is about to be executed – and then trips over her dog and fatally poleaxes herself. She is immediately reincarnated a 100 years later, and falls for a strikingly similar man, only for it to lead to another gruesome death. Repeating through the centuries with similarly gory results each time, the object of her unrequited infatuation takes various guises – landed gentry, highwayman, rock star – but is always a complete and utter jerk.

Playfully deconstructing the romcom, Agnese’s futile search for eternal love is a riot of absurdist laughs, colourful characters and flamboyant costumes, while remaining surprisingly insightful in its exploration of romantic obsession.

SPECIAL GUEST: We are joined for the opening night film of Timestalker by its writer/director/star, Alice Lowe. The film has received unanimous praise from critics, scoring 100% on Rotten  Tomatoes. It is our pleasure to host Alice who has entertained audiences and is known, among others, for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch; the 2016 film Prevenge which she co-wrote, directed and starred in; Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers which she co-wrote and Horrible Histories.
