Porcelain War: Showing #1
Emerging Filmmakers
Art and war collide in this visually striking, emotionally charged story of resilience and creatively in war torn Ukraine
Kharkiv-based husband-and-wife artists Slava Leontyev and Anya Stasenko—renowned for their delicate porcelain figurines—face an impossible choice as war encroaches on their lives. Along with a fellow artist, the couple refuse to flee, choosing instead to stay and fight while continuing to create their intricate art. Their work, once a symbol of fragility, becomes a powerful metaphor for resilience as they transform their craft into an act of defiance.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at Sundance, this striking first feature juxtaposes the beauty of delicate porcelain with the harsh realities of war. Contrasting astonishing combat and drone footage with the intimate world of small-scale art, and enriched with some exquisite animated sequences, it explores themes of resistance, identity, and the enduring power of artistic expression.
£6 Tickets. Also showing on Friday 20 September at 8pm.
