The Universal Theory

Quantum Mechanics meets Cold War romance in this stylish metaphysical thriller
In 1962, a young PHD student travels to a physics conference at an isolated lodge high in the Swiss Alps, where an esteemed scientist is due to reveal a groundbreaking new theory. He quickly becomes enamoured by a beguiling jazz pianist who instils a strange sense of déjà vu when she recounts things from his past that no one could possibly know about. Events become ever more mysterious as bodies are found, people go missing, strange cloud formations appear in the sky and ominous sounds are heard emanating from the mountains. It appears there are some very mysterious forces at play…
Shot in expressionistic black and white by cinematographer turned director Timm Kröger, this atmospheric and constantly intriguing mashup of Hitchcockian thriller, sci-fi and the French New Wave romance unfolds as a mind-bending tale of parallel universes, conspiracy theories, doppelgangers and unrequited love though time and space.
“THIS WONDERFULLY SLIPPERY HITCHCOCKIAN SCI-FI IS AN ELEGANT PUZZLE BOX FULL OF INGENIOUS IDEAS”
