Phantom of The Opera
Silent Night: A spellbinding live cinema experience with Neil Brand
A century on, the Phantom returns…
Join us for a haunting tribute to the enduring legacy of film with a centenary screening of Rupert Julian’s The Phantom of the Opera (1925). This landmark of silent cinema—starring the legendary Lon Chaney—remains one of the most visually iconic horror films ever made. Chaney’s Phantom, cloaked in darkness and despair beneath the Paris Opera House, is a masterclass in expressionist performance and early special effects. Presented with live piano accompaniment by Neil Brand, one of the world’s foremost silent film musicians and a celebrated BBC broadcaster, this special screening brings new energy and immediacy to the gothic masterpiece.
The evening includes a short introduction reflecting on the film’s cinematic legacy and the enduring magic of silent storytelling.
More than an opening night — this is a celebration of 100 years of cinema.
