My Old Ass

Preview

18-year-old Elliott is visited by her future self, who has some sage advice for her. But will she listen?

It just takes a sip of magic mushroom tea on a camping trip with her besties to summon her sardonic 39-year-old self. Teenage Elliot is intrigued to know what life lessons she can learn from “her old ass” but is dismissive of warnings about matters of the heart.

Setting both of them on an insightful journey of discovery, this quirky riff on time travel comedies, explores coming of age, girlhood, first love and sexuality with heart and humour. The chemistry between the two leads is just as it should be for two versions of the same person. It’s a breakthrough role for Maisy Stella as the impetuous queer teenage Elliot, with the always brilliant Aubrey Plaza showcasing her trademark wryness as the world-weary mature Elliot.
