Monty Python & The Holy Grail 50th Anniversary

TERRY GILLIAM TO MARK 50th ANNIVERSARY OF MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL AT CHELTENHAM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

A very silly celebration with one of cinema’s most imaginative storytellers.

Cheltenham International Film Festival (CIFF) is delighted to announce that legendary filmmaker Terry Gilliam will join the 2025 Festival to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The landmark comedy, first released in 1975, remains one of the most quoted and beloved films in British cinema history. CIFF will screen a newly restored version, followed by an on-stage conversation with Gilliam, reflecting on the film’s enduring legacy, its absurdist humour, and behind-the-scenes tales from the days of mud, swallows, and killer rabbits.

“This isn’t just a screening — it’s a chance to experience the film with one of its creators in the room,” says Festival Director Leslie Sheldon. “It will be a highlight of our programme, and a celebration of the anarchic spirit that keeps The Holy Grail alive for new generations.”

The event will take place during the Festival’s run from 15 September to 6 October. Tickets will go on sale with the full programme announcement during August. Watch this space.
