CHELTENHAM YOUTH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
FILM LAB21

Cheltenham Youth International Film Festival (CYIFF) is a new annual event to highlight our work with young people. Our intention is to introduce pupils in schools, schools-leavers and students of film to cinema from around the world and to continue with a programme of education in the art of filmmaking through master classes and workshops with film industry professionals.

During CYIFF Part I from 24 May – 5 June, we have recruited young people studying film to get hands-on experience by helping to programme film selection, produce film trailers, write film critiques, produce podcasts related to the film festival, organise social media and more. Our young programmers have selected four films to be screened during CYIFF with a special discount:

During Part II of the film festival in October, we shall focus on Black History Month with workshops, panels and discussions for young people, involving members of the black community working in film plus a guest lecture on diversity in the film industry.

Film Lab21

Film Lab21 is our second, new initiative to widen and deepen our connection with the community; it comprises educational workshops on the art of filmmaking, talks by film professionals and industry experts, plus special youth-focused events. Film Lab21 will be rolled out into the community, in-between film festivals, up to four times a year, working with local charities, schools and initiatives such as No Child Left Behind.
